GRANTS — Funeral Services for Mabon Edward “Ed” Barnes, 68, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Compassion Mortuary in Grants. The Rev. Frank Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at El Morro Cemetery.
Barnes died Aug. 19, 2011. He was born July 8, 1943, in Grants.
Barnes worked for 15 years in the mining industry. He was with the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office for more than 11 years, beginning as a reserve deputy for two years before becoming a full time deputy in 1982. As a deputy, he helped implement the DARE program within the department. He also served the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office as an instructor and trainer for the sheriff’s reserves, new deputies, continuing education for the department. He was a member of the Grants-Milan Elk’s Lodge for 41 years. He married his wife, Gale Bertha Boyd, on Dec. 28, 1962.
Survivors include his wife Gale Bertha Boyd; children David Earl Barnes, of Murrayville, Ill., Kathy Ann Barnes Lovette, of Wallburg, N.C., Rhonda Gale Barnes, of Grants, and Laura Day Barnes, of Grants; 11 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and siblings Caryl Brazell, Trudy Yates, Raymond Barnes and Becky Sanchez.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mabon Earl Barnes and Laura Mae Worthen Barnes; brother David Rusell Barnes; and infant son “Baby” Barnes.
Pallbearers will be James Mayers, Micheal Mayers, Triston Lovette, Michael Allender, Larry Worthen, Robert Polk, Teddy Yates, Todd Worthen, Pete Pinksten, Victor Kroen, Don Turner and all of his remaining grandchildren.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
GALLUP — Services for Thomas E. Gasparich, 89, will be announced at a later date.
Gasparich died Aug. 17, 2011, in Albuquerque. He was born July 6, 1922, in Gallup.
